Before you start

Two things you need.

Your 99¢ VPN dashboard with a device added, and the WireGuard app on the device you are connecting. If you have not set a password yet, use the one-time link in your welcome email, or request a new one.

1. Log in to your dashboard99centvpn.com/login. Every device you add gets its own configuration; the Basic plan includes one, Premium includes five.
2. Press "Add New Device"Give it a name you will recognise, like "Phone" or "Work laptop".
3. Open "Scan QR" on that device cardEasiest is to open the dashboard on a computer or tablet so your phone can scan the screen. Setting up the same device you are looking at? Use "Download .conf" instead and import the file.

iPhone & iPad

iPhone setup.

1. Install WireGuardIt is free and made by the WireGuard project, not by us.
2. Open it and tap the + buttonTop right corner.
3. Choose "Create from QR code"Point the camera at the QR code on your dashboard. If you downloaded a .conf file instead, choose "Create from file or archive" and pick it from Files.
4. Name the tunnel and allow the profileiOS asks once for permission to add a VPN configuration. That is expected: the VPN becomes part of your phone's network settings.
5. Tap the switch to connectA small VPN badge appears at the top of the screen. That is it. Next time it is just the switch.

Optional: in the tunnel's settings, turn on On-Demand for Wi-Fi so the VPN connects itself whenever you join a network you did not choose to trust.

Android

Android setup.

1. Install WireGuardFree, from the WireGuard project.
2. Open it and tap the + buttonBottom right corner.
3. Choose "Scan from QR code"Point the camera at the QR code on your dashboard. If you downloaded a .conf file instead, choose "Import from file or archive".
4. Accept the connection requestAndroid asks once for permission to set up a VPN connection.
5. Tap the switch next to the tunnelA key icon or VPN label appears in the status bar while it is on.

Optional, and worth it for travel: in Settings → Network → VPN, open the gear next to WireGuard and turn on Always-on VPN. Some phones also offer Block connections without VPN, which stops anything leaking if the tunnel drops on hotel or airport Wi-Fi.

Mac, Windows & Linux

Computer setup.

1. Install WireGuard for your operating systemMac users can also get it from the Mac App Store.
2. Download the .conf file from your dashboardOn the device card, press "Download .conf". Keep the file private: it contains that device's key.
3. Import itIn WireGuard choose "Import tunnel(s) from file" and pick the .conf. On Linux without the desktop app: sudo wg-quick up ./your-file.conf.
4. ActivatePress Activate (or flip the switch). The status turns to Active with a recent handshake.

Check it worked

Thirty-second test.

1. Look for the VPN badgeiPhone shows "VPN" at the top; Android shows a key icon. WireGuard itself shows "Latest handshake" a few seconds ago and data counters that move.
2. Search "what is my IP"You should see the VPN server's location, not your home internet provider or your mobile carrier.
3. Open something normalEmail, a browser, messages. If they load, you are done. Leave it on; WireGuard is light enough that battery is not a concern.

Something's wrong

The usual fixes.

• The QR code will not scan. Make the dashboard bigger on the screen, turn up the brightness, and hold the phone still. Or press "Download .conf" and import the file instead.
• It says connected but nothing loads. Turn the tunnel off and on. If that does not fix it, delete the tunnel in WireGuard, then add it again from a fresh scan. Do not edit the config by hand.
• "Latest handshake" never appears. The network you are on may block VPNs (some corporate and school Wi-Fi does). Try mobile data or a different network to confirm the setup itself is fine.
• I scanned a code meant for a different device. Each device has its own configuration. Delete the tunnel, go back to the dashboard, and scan the code on the right device card.
• My phone was replaced or reset. Revoke the old device on the dashboard and add a new one. The old key is removed from the server within about a minute of revoking.
• I cannot log in. Use Forgot your password? on the login page. The link works once and expires in an hour.
• Still stuck. Email [email protected] with your device type and what WireGuard shows. A person reads every email.
